Can someone explain to me why people even bother to care about the possibility Paris Hilton could go to jail to serve 45 days for violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.
I'm really having a hard time understanding the hype surrounding Paris Hilton. There's positive celebrities, negative celebrities and then there's Paris Hilton, a quite unique example of "nothing" hyped to celebrity rank.
Britney Spears is a celebrity, both positive and negative. She's been a true Idol for at least two generations of teens who crossed puberty listening to her songs. She then spiraled downwards when excessive media exposure made her lack of maturity surface, reaching its bottom with her latest "wrecks" that brought her to need rehab.
We then have positive celebrities, like the Pope or the Dalai Lama, preaching love and understanding to billions who seek a word of wisdom. In our world based on dualism we also need negative celebrities like serial killers, mass murderers and all the Osama Bin Laden one can think of.
All these celebrities, positive and negative, share something: they've all done or said something, good or bad, that somehow influenced the thoughts or behaviors of a large number of their fellow human beings.
Paris Hilton is the anomaly, the nothing made celebrity. Nobody but her closest friends knew she existed until her sex tape surfaced years ago, exposing the wealthy heiress of the Hilton Empire to the eyes of tens of millions of males salivating to see how good she was in bed.
"Famous for being famous", that's the most appropriate definition I heard of Paris Hilton. The real question becomes why people care about her, or buy gossip magazines telling them who her latest boyfriend is, which party she went to, if she got drunk or not, yada yada yada.
No matter how you look at her there is nothing she stands for besides herself and her need to have her picture plastered on gossip magazines. She means nothing; she doesn't have anything to share or nothing to say that could make people talk or think.
So why should we care if she ends up in jail or not? If she does bad for her. If she doesn't good for her. I'm sure I won't loose my sleep over her faith, whichever way it goes.
I never thought I could say this but the "nothing" Paris Hilton makes me miss Mel Gibson’s lack of diplomacy and triggers the hope he says something newsworthy, doesn't matter if good or bad, when he gets caught for his next DUI. Strongly opinionated as he is he makes people think and debate over issues, unlike the "nothing" that goes by the name of Paris Hilton, the woman who is "famous for being famous."
