Riyo Mori, a 20-year-old ballet dancer from Shizuoka, Japan, was crowned Miss Universe last night in Mexico City, Mexico.
Riyo Mori is the second Japanese to be crowned Miss Universe in 48 years. The first Miss Universe winner from Japan was Akiko Kojima in 1959.
There were many hopes of Miss USA Rachel Smith to be the winner of Miss Universe 2007 Pageant. However Rachel Smith, who miserably fell while walking during the evening dress competition, became the fourth runner-up.
Opening favorites Miss Venezuela, Miss Brazil and our own favorite Miss Korea all ended up among the top 5 finalists.
Riyo Mori apparently likes records; she is the first Japanese in history to pass the audition for The Rockette Summer Intensive.
Riyo has studied at Quinte Ballet School of Canada and also is a graduate of Centennial Secondary School in Belleville, Ontario, Canada.
The lucky bettors who wagered on Miss Japan to become Miss Universe must be bearing a huge smile printed on their faces; Mori's victory paid out $2,200 for every $100 bet on her.
