The Myth Vs The Mediocrity

For too long, the traditional media and a few members of both parties have swooned like giddy 'tweeners at a Boy Band over the alleged genius of Mr. Karl Rove. He may indeed tower over his peers in the Bush/Cheney Whitehouse, mostly by just being competent. But it’s high time someone tells it like it is: Karl Rove and George Bush have nuked the GOP like a 20 megaton political MIRV.
The Daily Dish (http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2007/08/rove-exits.html) -- Rove is one of the worst political strategists in recent times. ... His divisive politics and elevation of corrupt mediocrities to every branch of government has turned an entire generation off the conservative label.
Consider what fate bestowed upon Rove fresh out of the gate. How many times in American history has this country been so unified as we were on September 12, 2001? And as one consequence, an untried and relatively unknown George Bush enjoyed instant, obligatory approval. Conservative cheerleaders now openly pine (http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/08/12/hoping-for-horrorstu-bykofsky/) away for another 9-11 in the false -- but oh so seductive belief -- that it was neoconservatism and George Bush we cherished, instead of the country he serves and which we love.
And yet, even with that considerable headstart, Mr. Rove and his minions managed to alienate chunks of a once vibrant, rock-solid conservative caucus a deme at a time, starting right away. One after another pieces of the big tent fell like dominoes to Stem Cells, Terry Schiavo, Iraq, Tora Bora, a common thief (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claude_Allen) in the Whitehouse, perjury, Jeff Gannon, deficits, Walter Reed, fringe dominionists nuts strutting proudly in the spotlight and placed in positions to wreak havoc on critical government agencies, immigration, science, DPW, Pat Tillman, an Attorney scandal that won't quit ... Good grief, he missed a PR bonanza by ignoring a hurricane that could be seen approaching Louisiana from the surface of the moon. Anyone with half of Bush’s Brain should have envisioned the potential immediately: Bush in a Coast Guard 'costume' guiding the cable to stranded residents on a rooftop, Bush in full desert camo blazing into downtown New Orleans in a Humvee, leading a convoy stocked with food and medicine ... it's almost inexplicable, but the so-called genius blew it completely.
Despite gift after gift -- too often in the form of tragedy after tragedy -- in spite of an enormous interlocking mega-media empire of cable news, talk radio, and old fashioned print pseudo-journalism dedicated solely to spreading right-wing propaganda, notwithstanding a so-called liberal media eager to shore up those efforts, the only accomplishments which will save this administration from utter obscurity is the astonishing litany of partisan, tactical, and strategic failures they have racked up under turdblossom.
Brilliant, unbeatable strategist? By his own mediocrity, with a generous assist by a handful of progressive bloggers and a fake, comedy news show or two, Karl Rove has been beaten to a pulp. Even absent, he may remain the democrats' most valuable asset for a decade. Rove is not riding off triumphantly into the Texas sunset. He is no fool, he is no genius: Karl Rove is just the latest neocon failure, scandal swirling around him like angry snowflakes, slinking away in quiet disgrace.
