Juan Monaco has started to play the best tennis of his career while Nicolas Lapentti is getting to be old and ended his last season to backinjury. Lapentti playd one challenger on the clay this year where he won two matches but lost for Marreno Santana who’s current ATP ranking is 362. Their head-to-heads are 2-0 for Monaco in straight sets both matches on the clay. Sounds like everything speaks for Monaco but Vina del Mar isn’t much appreciated between players and Monaco is 2-4 on this tournament. Wins against Veronelli and Coutelot while losses against Perez-Minarro, Squillari, Puerta and Montanes. Monaco has to get used to surfacechance and when big tournaments on the hard at Indian Wells and at Miami are coming it doesn’t sound good for good players to risk themselves at minortournament where the gamestyle is different compared to your short term goal and the risk to injure yourself higher because of surfacechance.
