Waikato Cheifs http://www.betshoot.com/images/vs.gif Otago Highlanders
This game should be a good one,the Cheifs are at that stage of their season when they normally improve out of sight and last week was a reflection of what they are capable of,but the Highlanders are one of those sides who hang around in games and I thought their attack was much improved last week against the Force so really this match shapes up as a very good one.
The Cheifs beat a very average Bulls side last week 43- 27 and looked pretty god in doing so but this week they face another NZ side and that changes things around considerably, the Cheifs have all the ingredients to be a great side but hardly ever fire in the Super 14,they have great loose forwards and a great backline but they hardly ever get it all working at once, while looking at the start on this match some might be inclined to fancy the start of 7 points for the Cheifs to cover,I have my doubts on that, the Highlanders don't go away and try right untill the end,the Cheifs drift in and out of games, their last 4 games in the first half has been dreadfull and I don't see that changing again a very hard working defence like the Highlanders have.
You have to say that the Highlanders are one of the most unluckiest teams in the Super 14 and have been for awhile now, they do not have the overall talent to beat some of the bigger sides but they have all the attributes that forge a winning side, they show great composure in defence and are very hard workers, their scrum is solid and can crush other sides at will and theuir forwards are huge and can intimidate other sides, but they lack that one class player to turn a game, their best player by far is Jimmy Cowan who continuies to show his class week in and week out,but once again effort will not win you games, you must have that bit of class about your side and unfortunatly for the Highlanders they just don't have it,whereas the Cheifs do have it in a number of positions.
The Highlanders have lost their last 3 against the Cheifs the last two have been won by the Cheifs by less than 5 points and with the defensive effort of the Highlanders that looks to be a pretty decent margin to look for again here today, the Highlanders don't offer to much in attack but they more than make up for that in defence,I quite fancy the Highlanders to cover the 7 on offer here but as a bit worried about a late penatie kick from Donald to snatch that off us so look for the Cheifs to win it by 12 points or less...Good Luck.
